Invitation to contribute to Bristol Walk Fest 2016

imageLast year’s event was a huge success and that was

in large part the result of so many wonderful local organisations taking part: 70 different organisations hosted over 150 walks and events throughout 31 days, attracting around 2000 walkers.

In 2016, the festival will again run throughout May, offering a variety of walks, as well as special events.

Walking For Health Bristol

Walking For Health

The festival aims to:

  • Offer a broad range of walks which include and represent all of Bristol’s communities and cultures
  • Showcase Bristol both locally and nationally as a vibrant city of culture, green space and innovation
  • Encompass the themes of health, leisure, active travel, and learning & inspiration
  • Provide a forum for local organisations to demonstrate how much they value walking, walkers and the local walk infrastructure.

We have very much taken onboard the feedback from last year and therefore hope to offer an even better festival this year. One of the ways we are hoping to help you, as proposers of walks and events, is through a set of guidance notes on completing your walk submission and some additional guidance on planning what kind of walk you might want to submit.

We are also keen to consider proposals for the inclusion of walking-related events in our programme (e.g. author talks, discussions, research dissemination, etc.). Please ask for a specific proposal form for this.

Should you have an idea for a walk or event, but would like to talk things through we strongly encourage you to get in touch with the team.

This year’s festival will be launched on Friday 29th April with a repeat of April 2015’s “Compass Walk” – 4 main walk routes from the outer suburbs to Bristol City Centre. In addition we shall be hosting a reception after the Compass Walk where partners, supporters, walkers and volunteers can meet, mingle and find out more about the coming month of walks. Please look out for details to follow and put the date in your diary now, as we’d love you to be there!

To propose a walk or an event for the 2016 festival, please express your initial interest by email – details below. Then complete the form – to be returned by email or post – or, our preferred option would be for you to use the online survey monkey version:

Regardless, the deadline for proposals is 26th January 2016. Whilst this is some time away, we know many of you plan activities well in advance. Forms submitted early will be most welcome!

We will respond to your proposal by 17th February 2016 and a full event programme will be available by early April 2016.

If you would like further information or if you wish to discuss your event idea before submitting a proposal please contact Stuart Riddle on 0117 3521663.

Let’s make the 2016 festival, the best yet!
