Bristol Fairtrade receive award at the National Conference in Birmingham

Not only does Fairtrade help the very farmers who are feeling the impacts of Climate Change first but Fairtrade standards ensure that environmentally unsustainable practices are avoided. That is why Green Capital is particularly pleased that Bristol has won the Outstanding Achievement Award in this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight Awards.  The award confirms Bristol as the leading Fairtrade City in the UK, with many of our events and activities being replicated by other Fairtrade groups around the world.

We came top in all 3 categories we
entered and the judges said we were head and shoulders above other towns and
cities in the way we strategically targeted our
audience, brought together such a range of partners and attracted huge amounts of media coverage.

Fairtrade ensures sustainable living in small communities so this is a fantastic achievement for our Green Capital. We need to remember that our real strength is in changing the world beyond our city boundaries by our activities.
