Bristol’s BIG Green Week is to host the first-ever Atmosphere Electric Bike World Championship on Sunday 10 June as part of a family day of sustainable fun on the first weekend of the Big Green Week.
Bristol’s strong performance in reaching the last three for the next European Green Capital Award was highlighted today by the European Commission.
Publishing their independent technical evaluation of all 18 European cities taking part, the Commission’s experts ranked Bristol second overall, and number one in three areas: climate change, air quality and noise pollution.
For the second time, Bristol is the only city in the UK to have the reached the shortlist for this coveted award.
Alongside the other short-listed cities – Copenhagen and Frankfurt – Bristol will now present its case to a jury of experts in Brussels on 8th June. It will then receive the final verdict on 29 June.
We were supposed to be saving this for tomorrow, but the story broke this morning on local news. We are in the final of the 2014 European Green Capital Award (EGCA) with Frankfurt and Copenhagen – we now have to prepare a 90 minute presentation for the European Jury in Brussels on 8th June.

Bristol’s city centre shopping area will welcome a dramatic open-air gallery of photographs by Kiri Rezac on 17 April with the arrival of Tarnished Earth, telling the story of one of the world’s biggest ecological disasters.
Staged by The Co-operative in conjunction with WWF-UK and Greenpeace, Tarnished Earth is a free outdoor exhibition which is touring the UK’s major cities.
