Sustainability Toolkit, for the transition to sustainable work, will start again in January 2012

Sustainability Toolkit is a 12 month, part time programme, designed for people who want more meaning in their work, who are looking for something more ‘worthwhile’, something that feeds their spirit, and their passion to make a positive impact on the planet. The Toolkit, which is part of the Schumacher Institute Learning Programme,  introduces the concept of systems thinking and offers a set of practical steps for the transition to sustainable work.

The course has run successfully throughout 2011, providing participants with useful knowledge and a supportive group of fellow learners to underpin their transition to more meaningful work. Fortnightly evening classes provide practical knowledge  - about different perspectives, about sustainability, about the way people learn, about systems thinking and what this really means in relation to sustainability.

Martin Sandbrook, who leads the course, says “There are an increasing number of people who want to find more meaningful ways to make a living, but feel unsure how to make the transition to a sustainable career. They may feel alienated by the world of work or feel that they do not fit in to corporate cultures. By the end of the toolkit programme, participants will understand sustainability more deeply and be clear about where they are heading and how to get there, supported by a network.”

The course, which is accredited as a post-graduate certificate, is based in central Bristol.

Designed to fit round busy schedules, evening classes will take place every other Tuesday, from 6.15 to 8.45pm in St Nicholas House, central Bristol. The programme starts on 17th January 2012.

To get a feel for the programme, free taster sessions will take place on 22nd November, 6th December and 3rd January at St Nicholas House, 31-34 High Street, Bristol, BS1 2AW. The taster sessions start at the same time as the Toolkit classes – 6.15pm. Martin Sandbrook will be there to give further details and answer questions.

Green Capital Residents Survey

2011 Residents Survey

In July we added a page of questions to the Bristol City Council 2011 Residents Survey. Our aim was to establish a baseline of information from which we could judge progress – progress in helping people understand the climate crisis that we are facing, helping people understand what they can do about it as individuals, and helping us as a partnership understand what people think the priorities are. The free text answers to the question: What one thing can we do more of to help Bristol become a Green Capital, are particularly worth a read!
